Fabricio Werdum | Fedor Emelianenko | werdum| Fedor | Strikeforce | Sherdog
Reporting from San Jose -- The rapid turn of events that led Fabricio Werdum to claim perhaps the most shocking upset in mixed martial arts history Saturday night over Fedor Emelianenko is what makes fans of the growing sport so rabid.
Anything can happen at any second.
So it was Saturday at HP Pavilion, where a nearly full house was stunned as Emelianenko knocked Werdum to the mat in the opening seconds of the fight with a hard right hand, then found his head locked in a Werdum leg wrap.

Neil Peart | Rush
Neil Peart (pronounced /ˈpɪərt/) OC, (born September 12, 1952) is a Canadian musician and author. He is the drummer and lyricist for the rock band Rush.
Peart grew up in Port Dalhousie, Ontario (now part of St. Catharines) working the occasional odd job. However, his true ambition was to become a professional musician. During adolescence, he floated from regional band to regional band in pursuit of a career as a full-time drummer. After a discouraging stint in England to concentrate on his music, Peart returned home, where he joined a local Toronto band, Rush, in the summer of 1974.

Mixed martial arts pioneer Frank Shamrock has called it a career.
The first man to win the belt that would become the Ultimate Fighting Championship's light-heavyweight title announced his retirement tonight at Strikeforce's show in San Jose. He hasn't fought since losing to Nick Diaz at a catchweight bout of 179 pounds in April 2009, on Strikeforce's first show under its current arrangement with Showtime.
"My time has come," Shamrock told the crowd at the H-P Pavilion in San Jose. "The stars like Gilbert Melendez and Cristiane Cyborg. They are the future and I am the past. Tonight I announce my retirement and I say this will be the last time I walk into this cage as a fighter."
It has been years since Shamrock was a truly significant fighter, but he helped pave the way for the current generation of mixed martial artists.

Tropical Storm Alex
BELIZE CITY, — Hundreds of tourists and residents fled low-lying islands off Belize and beachgoers were warned to stay out of the water along Mexico's resort-studded Caribbean coast, as rain from Tropical Storm Alex began lashing the region.
Alex, with maximum sustained winds of about 65 mph (100 kph), was expected to make landfall at Belize by nightfall, cross land and enter the Gulf of Mexico late Sunday. The storm appeared headed west of the massive oil spill in parts of the gulf, but meteorologists warned that a storm's track can quickly change.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Alex was centered just 30 miles (50 kilometers) east-southeast of Belize City on Saturday afternoon. A tropical storm warning was in effect for Belize and Mexico's entire Caribbean coastline up to Cancun.

College student Robby Donoho watched Landon Donovan’s golden goal on Wednesday and decided it merited an instant tribute. Little did he know, within hours it would wind up bringing the United States soccer hero, flicking through the Internet half a world away, to tears.
It didn’t take long for the [Donoho's YouTube video] to be passed through to the USA’s training camp near Pretoria and onto the laptop of Donovan himself. For all of the praise and plaudits the goal-scoring star received after his moment of glory, it was seeing the reaction sparked by his calm strike into the bottom corner of the Algerian net that touched him the most.
“Not sure if you guys saw this but it brings tears to my eyes every time,” Donovan wrote on his Facebook account, while linking to Donoho’s video. “Thank you all so much … we can do it.”
Kellogs Recall
June 25, 2010 -- The Kellogg Co. has issued a voluntary recall of 28 million boxes of some of its most popular cereals because of an "uncharacteristic off-flavor and smell" coming from packaging.
Kellogg, based in Battle Creek, Mich., says it issued the recall in consultation with the FDA.
"We have identified a substance in the package liners that can produce an uncharacteristic waxy-like off taste and smell," spokeswoman J. Adaire Putnam tells WebMD in an email. "Consumers report a variety of tastes and smells, including those that are stale, metal, and soap-like."

The recall includes Froot Loops, Apple Jacks, Corn Pops, and Honey Smacks that have been sold around the country, the company says.
